LARAMIE, Wyo. (12/19/23) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team couldn't have asked for a better start Tuesday night in its dual against No. 9 Oklahoma State. No. 9
Jore Volk (125) gave the fans inside the UniWyo Sports Complex something to cheer about early, however, only one more Wyoming win matriculated in.
Oklahoma State prevailed, 31-9, to push its record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big 12. Wyoming falls to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Volk was coming off the biggest win of his collegiate career. He defeated No. 1 Richard Figueroa of Arizona State just two days earlier at the Reno Tournament of Champions, and he didn't let a hangover or a lack of rest affect him.
Volk dominated No. 21 Troy Spratley on Tuesday night. He thoroughly won riding time, scored a takedown and earned an escape en route to a 5-1 victory that pushed his record to 11-3 on the season.
Volk got the fans energized. But No. 15
Joey Novak evoked the loudest cheer out of them.
Novak trailed during the third period of his match with Jersey Robb. He worked a reversal, which swiftly turned into a pin 6:21 into the bout.
The victory moves Novak to 11-6 on the year. That record includes four wins against ranked grapplers.
Wyoming returns to action just before the New Year. The Pokes take part in the Solider Salute Tournament in Coralville, Iowa, from Dec. 29-30.
