Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sept. 9, 2022) --  Wyoming Cowboy senior Tyler Severin and sophomore Jaren Calkins fired outstanding rounds of even par 72 on Friday in the season-opening tournament of the year.  They are tied for 22nd place out of 120 golfers at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational being played on the Air Force Academy Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course.
 
Severin and Calkins are only five shots back of the tournament leader Davis Bryant of Colorado State, who shot a 67 (-5) on Friday.  The other three players competing for the Cowboys are: senior Kirby Coe-Kirkham, who is tied for 44th at 74 (+2); sophomore Kristof Panke, tied for 82nd at 77 (+5) and junior Jimmy Dales, tied for 117th at 83 (+11).    
 
As a team, Wyoming posted a score of 295 (+7) and is tied with Wofford in 13th place in the field of 24 collegiate teams.  Colorado State holds the team lead after the first of three rounds, with a team score of 283 (-5).  Colorado, Utah State and Cal State Northridge are tied for second at 287 (-1).  They are the only four teams under par.
 
Wyoming is in a group of 10 teams within five strokes of each other from fifth place to 13th place.  UTEP and New Mexico State are tied for fifth place at 290 (+2) only five strokes ahead of the Cowboys at 295 (+7).
 
The 2022 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational is being played at the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course on the Air Force Academy campus outside Colorado Springs, Colo.  The course measures 7,541 yards and plays to a par of 72.
 
The tournament will continue with the second 18-hole round on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday with a final 18-hole round.
