Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sept. 10, 2022) -- An outstanding round of 71 (-1) by Wyoming's
Kirby Coe-Kirkham on Saturday moved the senior up 19 spots into a tie for 25th place entering Sunday's third and final round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational being played at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Coe-Kirkham began Saturday's second round tied for 44th place, but he had six birdies, nine pars, one bogey and two double bogeys in his round of 71 (-1) on Saturday to vault up the standings into 25th, with a 36-hole total of 145 (+1). He is only four shots out of the Top 10 in the tournament.
The Cowboys will enter Sunday's final round in 17th place in the 24-team field at 595 (+12). Colorado State sits in first place as a team at 563 (-13) and holds a five-stroke lead over second place San Jose State, which will carry a 568 (-8) team score into the final round.
Wyoming's other senior,
Tyler Severin, is just one stroke back of Coe-Kirkham at 146 (+2). Severin is tied for 32nd. The other three Cowboys competing for Wyoming are sophomores:
Jaren Calkins, tied for 66th at 151 (+7); and
Kristof Panke, 153 (+9) and tied for 87th. UW junior
Jimmy Dales rounds out Wyoming's competitors in 120th place at 165 (+21).
Panke, playing in his first tournament for the Cowboys after transferring from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, made a hole-in-one on the 240-yard, par three 17th hole on Saturday.
The tournament's individual leader is Colorado State's Davis Bryant, who holds a two-stroke lead at 135 (-9).
The 2022 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational is being played at the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course on the Air Force Academy campus outside Colorado Springs, Colo. The course measures 7,541 yards and plays to a par of 72.
In addition to the team competition, there are 46 other collegiate golfers competing in an individual event that is being played at the Eisenhower Golf Club Silver Course. Wyoming sophomore
Patrick Azevedo is tied for first in the individual tournament, firing a two-day total of 138 (-6) entering Sunday's final round. He is tied with Davis Heslington of Utah Tech. Cowboy sophomores
Aidan Mann and
Cade McLaughlin are tied for eighth at 142 (-2).
Both the team and individual tournaments will conclude on Sunday with a final 18-hole round.
