LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 10, 2022) – The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team will get the 2022-23 campaign underway on Monday at the UVU Hobble Creek Classic in Provo, Utah. This will be the second year in a row the Cowgirls start the season with the Hobble Creek Classic after finishing seventh at the tournament last year.

The Cowgirls will open their season with the first two rounds of play on the 6,032-yard, par-71 course on Monday teeing off at 7:45 a.m. MT. The tournament is then set to conclude on Tuesday with the final round of play set to being at 7:45 a.m. MT.
For the second year in a row and the third time in the last four seasons that the Cowgirls start their campaign with the Hobble Creek Classic as they look to repeat the success they have had in past years in Provo. In 2019 the Cowgirls finished fifth at the Hobble Creek Classic led by
Cristiana Ciasca who won a share of the individual title to help Wyoming to their top five finish. Last season the Cowgirls had their best tournament finish of the season at the Hobble Creek Classic placing seventh behind top 15 performances from
Kyla Wilde and
Samantha Hui who finished tied for eighth and 15
th respectively.
The Cowgirls will be up against a competitive 17 team field that includes Weber State who finished second at the Hobble Creek Classic in 2021 and enters the new season coming off of a third-place finish at the Big Sky Championships. Mountain West foe Boise State also highlights the field of teams the Cowgirls will be up against. The Broncos finished fourth a year ago at the Hobble Creek Classic and come into the season riding a fourth-place finish at the Mountain West Championships.
The season opening line-up for the Cowgirls will feature three returning starters in
Kyla Wilde,
Samantha Hui and
Morgan Ryan. Joining the trio of returners in the starting lineup will be a pair of new faces. True Freshman and Wyoming native
Sophie Spiva is set to make her collegiate debut at the Hobble Creek Classic and will be joined by San Jose State transfer
Jadan Gonzalez who will be making her Cowgirl debut.
