INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 19, 2022) – The NCAA released the brackets and seeds for the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Wednesday afternoon, including seeds and matchups for the four Wyoming Cowboys set to compete at the national tournament in Detroit, Mich. March 17-19.
After winning the Big 12 title at 197 pounds,
Stephen Buchanan has earned the No. 2 seed for the national tournament making him the highest seeded Poke out of the four qualifiers. In the first round of the NCAA tournament Buchanan will face No. 31 seeded JT Brown of Army. Buchanan will roll into Detroit with a 23-2 record on the season and is currently riding a 10-match winning streak.
Jacob Wright at 157 pounds earns the No. 12 seed and is set to face No. 21 seeded Chase Saldate of Michigan State in the opening round. Wright is coming off of a career best third place finish at the Big 12 Championships with his last three wins all coming over ranked opponents.
At 174 pounds
Hayden Hastings will head into the NCAA tournament as the No. 20 seed and is set to face No. 13 seeded Matt Finesilver of Duke in the opening round. Hastings finished fifth at the Big 12 championships and is currently 22-7 on the season.
Rounding out the qualifiers,
Tate Samuelson is tabbed as the No. 21 seed at 184 pounds drawing No. 12 seeded Brit Wilson of Northern Illinois in the first round. Samuelson finished seventh at the Big12 champion ships and is currently 19-7 on the season.
The 2022 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships are March 17-19 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich.
