INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 8, 2022) – The NCAA Division I Wrestling committee announced Tuesday that
Tate Samuelson (184) has received an at large big to the 2022 NCAA Championships.
The at-large selections were made using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, RPI, coaches' ranking and conference tournament finish.
With the bid, the Cowboys will now be sending a total of four wrestlers to Detroit, Michigan on March 17-19 to compete in the NCAA Tournament. For Samuelson, it will be his fourth straight trip the tournament.
It will also be the fourth career trip to the tournament for
Hayden Hastings who punched his ticket to Detroit after finishing fifth at the Big 12 Championships at 174 pounds.
Jacob Wright (137) and
Stephen Buchanan (197) are both set to make their third trip to the NCAA tournament after each grappler earned automatic qualification with their performances at the Big 12 championships.
Buchanan in particular will be bringing a lot of momentum into the national tournament after winning the Big 12 title at 197 pounds becoming the fourth Poke in program history to win a Big 12 title. During his Big 12 title run Buchanan posted three straight bonus point wins.
Seeding and brackets for the NCAAs will be unveiled during the NCAA Selection Show on NCAA.com, Wednesday, March 9th at 4 p.m., MT. Brackets will be sent out and posted on NCAA.com at the conclusion of the show.
The 2022 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships will be held March 17-19 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
