San Diego, Calif. (March 8, 2022) --  With a final round of two-over par 290, the Wyoming Cowboys moved up three spots to finish in 11th place out of 16 teams at the Lamkin San Diego Classic on Tuesday in San Diego, Calif.  Cowboy Jimmy Dales climbed up the standings five positions on Tuesday, shooting a final round of even par 72 to place 28th in a field of 95 collegiate golfers.

"I'm proud of the way the guys closed out the tournament today," said Joe Jensen, UW Director of Golf and Head Men's Golf Coach.  "All five of them shot between par and two-over par in the final round.  That is the kind of balance and consistency that we can build on.  Jimmy (Dales) led us again.  He has become a player we can count on week after week.  Pat (Azevedo), Kirby (Coe-Kirkham) and Tyler (Severin) all finished within three strokes of each other, and our freshman, Cade McLaughlin, shot an even-par round today to close out the tournament on a high note.  It was good to finish ahead of a conference opponent in San Diego State, and it was good to move up the standings in the final round."

In addition to finishing ahead of the host Aztecs, Wyoming also finished ahead of Front Range opponents Colorado and Denver.

Individually, Dales total of 215 (-1) tied him for 28th.  Azevedo tied for 46th at 218 (+2)  Coe-Kirkham finished in 51st place, with 219 (+3).  Severin tied for 64th at 221 (+5), and McLaughlin placed 90th, with a 233 (+17) total.

LSU won the team title by eight strokes over second-place Washington.  The Tigers fired a 54-hole total of 827 (-37), while the Huskies finished at 835 (-29).  Notre Dame placed third at 837 (-27), and San Diego came in fourth at 839 (-25).    LSU entered the tournament ranked 34th in the country and Washington was ranked No. 8.  Notre Dame was ranked 15th and San Diego 67th.

Nicholas Arcement of LSU secured individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 203 (-13) to win by two strokes over Washington teammates Noah Woolsey and RJ Manke, who tied for second at 205 (-11).

The 2022 Lamkin San Diego Classic was hosted by San Diego State on the San Diego Country Club.  The course measured 7,033 yards and played to a par of 72.

Wyoming's next competition will be at the Arizona N.I.T. in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday and Saturday, March 18-19.
