Lahaina, Maui. (Oct. 28, 2022) --  The Wyoming Cowboys featured a balanced attack on Friday in the first round of the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational.  After the first of three days of competition, Wyoming is tied for 15th in the field of 20 teams that features six of the Top 50 ranked teams in the nation based on Golfstat rankings.
 
Wyoming has four team members who are within two strokes of each other.  Junior Jimmy Dales shot even par 71 on Friday to tie for 49th.  Senior Tyler Severin and sophomore Patrick Azevedo each shot 72 (+1) in the opening round and are tied for 59th.  Sophomore Jaren Calkins posted a first round score of 73 (+2) to tie for 78th, and Cowboy senior Kirby Coe-Kirkham and sophomore Aidan Mann, who are both playing as an individuals, also shot rounds of 73 (+2) to tie with Calkins for 78th.
 
Rounding out the five-man lineup for Wyoming was sophomore Kristof Panke, who is tied for 114th at 78 (+7).  The third Cowboy who is playing as an individual is sophomore Cade McLaughlin, who shot a 76 (+5) and is tied for 109th.
 
Clemson is leading the tournament at 267 (-17).  The Tigers hold a one stroke lead over the top ranked team in the field, No. 11 ranked Oklahoma, who shot an opening round of 268 (-16).  East Tennessee State, who was ranked No. 45 in the nation entering the tournament is, two strokes back at 269 (-15).
 
Andrew Swanson of Clemson and Drew Goodman of Oklahoma are tied for the individual lead at 64 (-7).                                       
 
The second of three rounds will be played on Saturday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., Hawai'i Time (Noon, Mountain Time).  Wyoming will be paired with host Hawai'i, Denver and UConn for Saturday's second round.  The final of three rounds will be played on Sunday, Oct. 30.
 
This week's tournament is being played a the Royal Ka'anapali Golf Course in Lahaina, Maui, which measures 6,700 yards and plays to a par of 71.
