LARAMIE, Wyo. (Jan. 14, 2022) – The No. 19 ranked Wyoming Cowboys had their second dual of the season Friday night hosting No. 10 ranked Iowa State inside the Arena-Auditorium. Iowa State took the dual 32-6, but two Cowboys came away with big ranked wins. 
 
At 174 pounds No. 12 Hayden Hastings took the mat against the Cyclones No. 20 ranked Joel Devine. After a scoreless first period Devine chose to start the second period on bottom and that's where Hastings seized control of the match. Hastings rode out Devine for the entirety of the second period and then began the third period with an escape to go up 2-0. From there Hastings showcased stingy defense on his way to the shutout victory over his top 20 opponent.
 
The match of the night took place at 197 pounds as No. 3 ranked Stephen Buchanan squared off against ISU's No. 12 ranked Yonger Bastida. Bastida struck first taking down Buchanan late in the first period to go up 2-0. Bastida would then grow that lead to 4-1 with a minute and a half left in the match. With time running out Buchanan mounted a furious comeback scoring an escape and takedown tying the match at 4-4 and forcing overtime. In the sudden victory period the two wrestlers traded shot attempts before Buchanan made the decisive move scoring off of a counterattack and handing Bastida just his second loss on the season. 
 
The Cowboys have a quick turnaround now as they host North Dakota State on Sunday inside the UniWyo Sports Complex. That dual is set to being at 1:30 p.m. MT.
