Laramie, WYO. (May 19, 2021) – After a very successful regular and post season, Head Wrestling Coach
Mark Branch has announced the teams end of season awards for the 2020-21 season.
The award winners are highlighted by
Stephen Buchanan who was named the Everett Lance Most Outstanding Wrestler. Buchanan tallied a record of 14-6 on the season and became Wyoming's 36
th NCAA All-American after finishing eighth at the NCAA Tournament. Buchanan recorded eight wins over ranked opponents during the season including a win over at the time No. 1 ranked and unbeaten Noah Adams (WVU).
After qualifying for his first NCAA Tournament,
Cole Moody was named the Joe McDaniel Most Improved Wrestler. Moody posted a record of 14-6 and earned a career high second place finish at the Big 12 Championships after placing sixth in the 2019-20 season.
Brian Andrews earned the Joe Dowler Cowboy Up Award for the grit and determination he showed throughout the season. Andrews had a strong start to the season picking up two ranked wins before being injured. Andrews came back from injury just in time for the Big 12 Championships where he finished second and qualified for his third straight NCAA Tournament.
The final award given out was the Steven Suder High Point Award that is rewarded to the athlete with the best combination of win percentage and gpa.
Tate Samuelson receives the award after being named to the Big 12 All-Academic first team and posting a 14-5 record including a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships.
