LARAMIE, Wyo. — Two Wyoming Cowboy Track & Field student athletes are ready to compete at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., on Friday April 16th.
Kirk Unland and Colton Paller will go against some new competition on Friday afternoon with Paller competing in the Discus at 2pm (MT) while Unland will battle the field in the Hammer Throw at 4:30pm.
"This meet features a field of high quality throwers", said Assistant Coach Carrie Lane, "It will give Colton and Kirk a chance to sharpen their competitive skills in a less familiar environment."
Unland has won four Hammer Throw competitions this season and is coming off his best throw of the season with a mark of 211-8 at last week's CU Invitational. That throw ranks No. 7 all-time at UW, 1st in the Mountain West, and 35th in the nation during the 2021 outdoor season.
Paller, a senior for the Cowboys, set his personal-best in the Discus with a throw of 187-6 two weekends ago at the Doug Max Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. That mark ranks 8th all-time at UW, 1st in the conference and 18th in the country.
