PALM DESERT, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2021) – The Wyoming Cowgirl Golf Team took the course for the first time in over a year and went finished with six points after halving each against Southern Utah and Boise State on Monday. The Broncos and Thunderbirds each have 6.5 points while Utah Valley is fourth with five.
"Today was so fun to get back on the course as a team," head coach
Josey Stender said. "We had some exciting matches that came down to the wire and some where the team really had confident control the entire match. We are looking forward to morrow's finish and know we have a shot to win if we play smart and confident."
In the opening match of the day, the Cowgirls split its six match against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 3-3.
Graduate student
Erin Sargent defeated her opponent Lexi Hamel by a score of 4 and 3 followed by sophomore
Samantha Hui earning a 1-up win over Hannah Gleason. The final Cowgirl to take home a victory was
Cristiana Ciasca who defeated Cornelia Karlsson with a two and one score.
Senior
Caitlyn Skavdahl dropped her contest against Chanikan three and two. Tanyator Thalankarn beat
Jessica Zapf three and two.
Morgan Ryan lost two and one against Tori Thomas.
Wyoming followed up the final round of 18 holes with a 3-3 tie with Boise State.
Against the Broncos, each team split the six matches. Skavdahl fell six and five in her match against Emma Yang while Elli Gordon beat Sargent one up. Hui won her second match of the day with a five and three win over Nicole Suppelsa. Perry beat out Ciasca four and two while Zapf earned a four and two win over Cora Mickelsen and Ryan defeated Taylor Kock six and four.
Wyoming will close out the match play tournament tomorrow against the Utah Valley Wolverines. Tee times are set to begin between 8-9:10 a.m. MT. The golf is being played at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
