Lahaina, Maui. (Oct. 31, 2021) -- University of Wyoming Cowboy
Jimmy Dales completed an outstanding 2021 fall season as he recorded his fifth Top 25 finish in six fall tournaments, placing 10th at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on Sunday. Dales concluded the tournament with a final round of 70 (-1) and finished with a 54-hole total of 203 (-10) -- only six strokes out of first place.
Cowboys
Bryce Waters and
Jaren Calkins tied for 26th and 30th, respectively, out of 80 individuals. Waters posted a score of 211 (-2) and Calkins finished at 212 (-1). Wyoming's
Patrick Azevedo, playing as an individual, tied Calkins for 30th at 212 (-1), and UW's
Cade McLaughlin, also playing as an individual, finished in 39th place at 213 (Even). That gave Wyoming five individuals who shot even or under par for the tournament.
Wyoming finished 10th in the field of 14 teams, shooting a three-round total of 846 (-6). The Cowboys posted their best team round of the tournament on Sunday, recording a final round of 278 (-6).
"I'm pleased with our final round today, shooting six-under par. That was a positive way to end the fall," said
Joe Jensen, UW Director of Golf. "We had seven players shoot under par or par on Sunday, which is really encouraging going into the offseason.
"Jimmy (Dales) played another nice tournament. He's had a great fall and is still a relatively young player as a redshirt sophomore. I can't say enough about how the young guys are coming along."
The No. 14 ranked Kansas Jayhawks won the team title by 20 strokes over second-place Colorado. The Jayhawks fired a team score of 800 (-52) for 54 holes, while CU shot a 820 (-32). The individual title was captured by Brandon Berry of Loyola (Md.). Berry ended the tournament at 197 (-16). He won by one stroke over Carson Griggs of Denver, who finished at 198 (-15).
The Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational was hosted by the University of Hawai'i. The tournament was played at the Ka'anapali Golf Club's Royal Ka'anapali Course in Lahaina, Maui. The course measured 6,700 yards and played to a par of 71.
Wyoming will return to action on Feb. 11 and 12, 2022, when they will host the Wyoming World Team Match Play event in Palm Desert, Calif.
