LINCOLN, Neb. (March 7, 2020) – Mihaela Kaftanova earned a straight-sets victory Saturday over Nebraska's Anna Baranovski, winning 6-3 and 6-4 but it was not enough as the Wyoming tennis squad lost at Nebraska Saturday, 6-1. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 7-3 overall on the year.

Although Nebraska (10-4) was able to take the doubles point, the Cowgirls did secure one win on the doubles side as the team of Oleksandra Balaba and Maria Oreshkina defeated the tandem of Isa Adrover Gallego and Kristina Novak at the No. 1 spot, 6-3.

Kaftanova's win was her third straight this spring and moves her record to an impressive 5-1 in dual matches so far in 2020.

"It was a good battle," said assistant coach Erica Medlin.

 "We fought really hard against a tough team. We have a couple of areas to clean up and are excited to put them in action tomorrow."

UW was close to victory in multiple singles matches on the day as Ida Krause at No. 3 and Ana Fernandez at No. 4, both lost in three sets. Chloe Kuckelman defeated Krause by a score of 6-7, 6-2 and 6-0 while Fernandez fell to Ellie Kuckelman 2-6, 6-2 and 6-2.

The Cowgirls will look to split their weekend down in Lincoln Sunday morning as they face Illinois State at 10 a.m.
