PALM DESERT, Calif. (Sept. 29, 2019) – Senior
Erin Sargent recorded her first top ten finish of the fall golf season with a sixth place finish at the Wyoming Desert Classic in Palm Desert, Calif. on Sunday. The Cowgirls placed seventh as a team with an 83-over 947.
To follow her opening and second round scores of two-over 74 and second round five-over 77, Sargent recorded a six-over 78 to move up tenth place to sixth on Sunday. She had a three day total of 13-over 229 to be the low Cowgirl for the weekend.
Sophomore
Michelle Nguyen made a move up the leaderboard on Sunday as well. She shot a final day score of seven-over 79 for a combined score of 23-over 239 which put her in a tie for 25th and eight places better than the previous day. Senior
Kaylee Knadler had a tough final 18 holes with a 13-over 85 but still finished tied for 29
th at 25-over 241.
Sophomore
Samantha Hui closed out the tournament with an 11-over 83 and had a three day total of 25-over 241, while fellow sophomore
Cristiana Ciasca was right behind her in a tie for 34
th place. She wrapped up her weekend with a 12-over 84 and a combined tournament of 26-over 242. After back to back rounds of 81, junior
Caitlyn Skavdahl stayed consistent and shot another nine-over 81 for a total score of 27-over 243.
Individually, freshman
Jessica Zapf moved up five spots with her final round score of 12-over 84, while fellow freshman
Morgan Ryan recorded a final round of 15-over 87.
Cal Poly took home the team title with a 61-over 925, followed by Southern Utah (+62, 926) and UTEP (+62, 927). Hawaii (+78, 942) and Louisiana Monroe (+79, 943) rounded out the top five. Chanikan Yongyuan of Southern Utah took home the individual title with a three-over 219 by Valeria Mendizabal of UTEP who was five over 221.
Wyoming will return to the course on Monday, Oct. 14 at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Inviational in Tacoma, Wash.
