LAKEWOOD, Wash. (Oct. 14, 2019) – Sophomore
Cristiana Ciasca led the way for the Wyoming Golf Team as it opened up the first day of the Seattle Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational on Monday. After 36 holes, the Cowgirls sit in 15
th place with a 35-over 611.
Ciasca was the low Cowgirl on the team's first day and sits in a tie for 25
th. She started off with a 4-over 76 to begin the day then carded a second round one-over 73 for a combined total of five-over 149. Junior
Caitlyn Skavdahl completed the day with an eight-over 152 which is currently tied for 43
rd. She had a five-over 77 first round and a three-over 75 to conclude the day. Senior
Erin Sargent will enter the final day of the tournament in a tie for 60
th. She finished the first round with a four-over 76 followed by a second round of six-over 78 for a combined total of ten-over 154.
"We just couldn't get anything going today. This course demands decisive management and even good shots can be penalizing if the wrong club or line is chosen," head coach
Josey Stender said. "Cristiana and Caitlyn really rallied and hung in there for us. We are tightly grouped with other teams so if we make a few changes to our plan tomorrow we should improve."
Sophomore
Samantha Hui heads into Tuesday in a tie for 69
th with a 12-over 156. After shooting an opening round five-over 77, she completed her day with a seven-over 79. Fellow sophomore
Michelle Nguyen turned in a first round of seven-over 79, while shooting a tough 12-over 84 in the second round.
Gonzaga leads the field at eight-under with a 568, followed by Seattle (+11, 587) and Grand Canyon (+11, 587). Nevada and Cal State Fullerton are tied for fourth at 12-over 588. Quynn Duong of Gonzaga is the clubhouse leader with a six-under 138 followed by Carmen Belmonte of Grand Canyon who is three-under 141.
The tournament is being played at the par-72 6,020-yard Tacoma Country and Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash. Wyoming will tee off for the tournament's final round tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. MT.
