LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sep. 25, 2019) – The Wyoming Swimming and Diving squads are set to compete in the annual Brown and Gold meet on Friday. The meet will be held at Corbett Pool with the first diving event set to start at 4 p.m. MT and the swimming events set to begin at 5 p.m.

"This will be a good indicator for the team to see where they're at as a collective whole, both men and women so it is a nice way to start the season," head coach Dave Denniston said. "It also solidifies our culture for the year in terms of the team building, supporting each other and working really hard. When they get to race against each other, it becomes very competitive and they tend to do a really nice job with it."

The Cowgirls got their season started last Friday with a 176.5-123.5 victory over the Northern Colorado Bears. The Cowgirls were very dominant winning nine events including redshirt junior Karla Contreras taking both diving events and the relay teams.

On the men's side, the meet will serve as the first competition of the season for the Cowboys. They are coming off of a season in which UW finished third at the WAC Championships after a 5-3 dual meet record during the regular season. They also return WAC Individual Champion Seth Borgert who won the 1650 free last year with a time of 15:25.28.

This meet will also be the first chance for the newest class of Cowboys to compete in the pool.

"From everything we have seen in practice this men's freshmen class is really something special and it will be interesting to see what they do." Denniston added.

After the Brown and Gold meet, both teams will head to Denver to compete in the DU Relays, on Saturday, Oct. 5.
