LARAMIE, Wyo. (September 17, 2019) – The Wyoming soccer team will close out its non-conference schedule this week against the South Dakota Coyotes at 7 p.m. MT. The game is scheduled to be played at Thunder Basin High School in Gillette, Wyo.
Admission for the match is free. Following the contest, the Cowgirls will host a meet and greet and sign autographs.
The Cowgirls are 3-1-3 on the season after a 2-0 win over Southern Utah on Friday and a 1-1 double overtime tie with Montana on Sunday. They currently sit in fifth place in the Mountain West standings. Against the Thunderbirds, three Cowgirls, sophomore

Summer Taube, finished the night with a season-high five shots, while Asimus and Tatum had three shots on goal. Wyoming outshot the Thunderbirds 24-6 and had seven corner kicks. Sophomores

Riley Furbush split time in goal recording a combined for two saves. Against the Grizzlies, senior
Michaela Stark finished the contest with a game-high six shots with one on goal. Sophomore
Savannah Warner had two shots while a handful of Cowgirls had one. Lee played all 110 minutes in goal along with Warner, junior
Elle Webber and freshman
Keelie Wortmann. Wyoming outshot the Grizzlies 12-10 while the two teams combined for 26 total fouls.
Asimus currently leads the team with three goals, while Stark, Tatum and Wortmann, each have two goals apiece. Tatum has a team-high 14 shots with nine of them on goal. Lee has played in all seven games in net, has 21 saves and a 1.29 goals against average.
"After a hard fought weekend, we're ready for our last match before Mountain West play begin," head coach
Pete Cuadrado said. "Everyone is excited to get out and play in Gillette. They have a great soccer community, so we need to prepare and play well against South Dakota. We can expect another physical match, and really need to carry the lessons learned from last weekend through to this final non-conference match."
South Dakota enters Thursday's contest with a 1-5-0 mark and will play Drake prior to the Cowgirls. Their lone victory came in the season-opener with a 2-0 win over Idaho State. The Cowgirls also defeated the Bengals earlier this season by a score of 4-1. Last time out, the Coyotes dropped a tough 2-1 double overtime loss against Eastern Washington.
The Coyotes return eight starters and 19 letterwinners to a team that went 9-7-2 overall and 4-4-0 in the Summit League a year ago. They were picked to finish fifth in the Summit League preseason coaches' poll. South Dakota is coached by Michael Thomas who is in his second season with the program.
Jordan Centineo leads the way with two goals plus four shots and three of them on goal. Three others have each added a goal while Alexis Mitchell has a team-high two assists.
This is the sixth meeting between the two teams. UW leads the series 4-1-0. The last time the two teams met was August 16, 2018 with the Cowgirls coming out on top with a 4-2 victory in Vermillion.
