LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 20, 2019) – The Wyoming track & field teams are ready to begin the outdoor season this weekend, as they compete at the Colorado State-hosted Fum McGraw Open. The two-day event starts on Friday with the men's and women's hammer throw at 2 p.m. On Saturday, field events begin at 10 a.m., and track events start at 11 a.m., at Jack Christiansen Track.

"I thought we ended the indoor season with good momentum, and we've had a few weeks here to get back to training and get ready for the outdoor season," said head track & field coach Bryan Berryhill. "The first meet is important because it lets us know where we're at and what we need to work on between now and the conference meet to hopefully end that where we want to be."

The Pokes ended the indoor season this year in better shape than 2018, as the men finished the Mountain West Championships in fifth place to improve a spot in the standings from last year, while the women finished seventh to move up two spots from a season ago.

Senior Ja'la Henderson earned her third All-America honor in the indoor triple jump, as she placed 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Additionally, nine Wyoming athletes earned indoor all-Mountain West honors this season: Henderson (long jump/triple jump), Jerayah Davis (60m/200m), Hap Frketich (weight throw), Kirk Unland (weight throw), Christopher Henry (3,000m/5,000m) and the team of Jace Marx, Jacob Harthun, Brandon McGuire and Bryce Ailshie (4x400m relay).

At the 2018 Mountain West Outdoor Championships, the Cowboys finished fifth with 81.5 points, while the Cowgirls placed 11th with 44 points.

Wyoming returns seven all-conference performers from last season's outdoor championships. Henderson (long jump/triple jump) is the lone Cowgirl returning with 2018 all-league honors. For the Cowboys, Harry Ewing (steeplechase), Marx (100m), McGuire (400m hurdles), William Nolan (long jump/triple jump), Unland (hammer throw) and Jackson Wood (400m) return to this year's squad.
