Mihaela Kaftanova has been selected the Mountain West Women's Tennis Player of the Week. It's the first honor of her career and the third this season for the program. Seniors
Elisa Koonik and
Tessa van Der Ploeg were selected earlier the spring.
Kaftanova, a freshman from Sofia, Bulgaria, went 2-0 overall last week helping the Cowgirls to a 7-0 win over Montana on Saturday. She won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, over Alex Walker playing at the number six spot. She and doubles partner
Ida Krause opened up the match with a 6-4 victory over Dukic and Reguant.
She is currently 14-10 overall in singles play and 7-2 this spring. Kaftanova is also currently on a six match winning streak. In doubles action, she has a 14-14 overall mark and a 10-6 record with Krause.
The Cowgirls are currently 10-5 overall and riding a six match winning streak. Wyoming will return to action on Friday, March 29 to begin Mountain West play. They will face the New Mexico Lobos beginning at 2 p.m. MT at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.
