LUBBOCK, Texas (February 8, 2019) – Senior
Ja'la Henderson's school-record effort in the triple jump, and junior
Hap Frketich's weight throw title were the highlights of Wyoming track & field's day at the Texas Tech Shootout.
"It was great to see Ja'la out there competing again after missing some time with an injury," said head track & field coach
Bryan Berryhill. "She showed today that she is one of the best triple jump athletes in the nation, and I'm proud of how hard she has worked to get to this point. Coach (Quincy) Howe and
Travis Pepper (athletic trainer) have done a great job helping her get to where she is. Hap has taken a big step forward this year and competed really well in a tough environment to get the win in the weight throw. Overall, we had a good number of athletes show consistency and take a step forward today."
On her second jump of the day, Henderson broke her own school record in the triple jump, traveling 43 feet, 9.75 inches to move into first place at the time. In the final rounds, two other athletes would move slightly ahead of her, and she finished the event in third place. Entering the weekend, her mark would have been the fourth-best in the NCAA this season. The mark is also the fifth-best jump in Mountain West history.
