LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 5, 2019) – The Wyoming tennis doubles team of Mihaela Kaftanova and Ida Krause have been selected as a regional representative to play in the 2019 ITA Women's All-American Championships held at the University of Tulsa's LaFortune & Case Tennis Centers. Joining Kaftanova and Krause down in Tulsa will be Maria Oreshkina, who qualified for singles play.
Kaftanova and Krause will participate in the qualifying doubles draw with play beginning Oct. 7. Teams must win three rounds to advance to the Main Doubles Draw with matches featuring eight-game pro-sets. Oreshkina also begins Monday and must win twice to advance to the Main Draw.
Last season the Kaftanova and Krause duo went 13-9 overall together, including a 4-0 mark in tournaments and going a perfect 3-0 during the spring as the No. 1 doubles team for the Cowgirls.
In 2018-19, Oreshkina went 19-12 overall, tying for the team-lead for most wins. Oreshkina went 13-7 during dual play in 2019 while going 6-5 in tournament play. Most of Oreshkina's play last season came at No. 3 singles where she went 12-6.
"It's a cool thing for those three to be able to play in this," said head coach Dean Clower. "It's a big deal."
