COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 16, 2018) – The Cowgirl tennis wrapped up play on Sunday at the ITA Bedford Cup in the Mountains.
"As a team, I felt like this was a great progression toward playing our style of tennis," head coach
Dean Clower said. "The ladies did everything we asked of them to do this weekend which gives us a big boost for practice this week. It's a great thing heading in to this weekend."
In singles,
Ana Fernandez defeated Sidnee Lavatai of Utah State, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, followed by a 7-6, 6-4 victory by fellow freshman
Ida Krause over Madison Fenske of Idaho State. Junior
Ana Royo dropped a 6-4, 7-6 contest against Gabrielle Dekkers of Utah State and
Mihaela Kaftanova lost to Botes of Idaho State, 7-5, 6-1.
Fernandez and Krause defeated Sarina Chhabra and Synclair Larson of Northern Colorado, while Hsiange-Wen Huang and Natasha Munday of New Mexico beat
Elisa Koonik and Kaftanova, 8-6.
The Cowgirls return to action next Friday as they host the Wyoming Invite. The tournament will be Friday-Sunday and held at the UW Tennis Courts.
