CHANDLER, Ariz. – Wyoming men's golf finished 36 holes of play on Monday tied for third place in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. The Cowboys totaled a 567 (-9) with rounds of 279 (-9) and 288 (E). Senior Arron Lickteig is UW's lowest scorer thus far, tied for fourth at -5.

The Pokes jumped out to a two-stroke lead after a nine-under opening round fueled by Lickteig, who carded a 66 (-6) for sole possession of the individual lead after 18 holes. Lickteig's six consecutive birdies helped him to nine total birdies, the most of any player in either round. He finished the day with a second-round 73 (+1) to sit tied for fourth at -5 overall. Lickteig's 12 total birdies are tied for the most of anyone in the field. Lickteig is also the only player in the field playing the par-three holes at -3. Only three players are close at -2.

Junior John Murdock trails Lickteig by just a stroke after rounds of 68 (-3) and 71 (-1) leave him four-under overall and tied for seventh. Murdock's first round was clean, carding only one bogey to go along with four birdies. Sophomore Dan Starzinski is also under-par for the tournament, sitting tied for 22nd with a total of 143 (-1).

"A good solid day, a great morning even though we didn't play as well in the afternoon," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "Lots of good golf from top to bottom, Arron came out and played real well in the first round which was a highlight. We just want to continue what we're doing and go play aggressive tomorrow."

Senior Glenn Workman, playing as an individual, climbed the leaderboard in the afternoon with a round of 68 (-4) to finish with a total of 142 (-2). Workman is tied for 17th in the 89-man field. Freshman Carl Underwood also competed as an individual, recording a total of 159 (+15).

Sam Houston State leads the field after surging to the front of the pack with a second-round score of 275 (-13) to leave the Bobkats at 557 (-19) overall. UTSA is in second with a total of 560 (-16). Wyoming is tied with McNeese State at -9 overall, while Long Beach State utilized a second-round 275 (-13) to climb up to fifth at -8.

McNeese State's Blake Elliott, UTSA's Sean Meehan and Long Beach State's Nick Cantlay sit atop the individual leaderboard with totals of 137 (-7). Lickteig and two others are at -5 overall, while Murdock is one of five players at -4.
