Gabrielle Gibson are within the top-five after opening the first round of Southern Utah Lady Thunderbird Invitational on Thursday. Skavdahl, who is tied for third, fired a 74 (+2) at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. Gibson is not far back, as she shot a 75 (+3) to begin the two-round tournament. Additionally, Skavdahl's score tied her career-best while wearing the Brown and Gold.
"Caitlyn (Skavdahl) played very solid and mentally tough today," Cowgirl head coach
Josey Stender said. "The team battled through some tough conditions and put themselves in position to have a great finish tomorrow. It has been rewarding to see the team continue to improve in all areas and have a truly balanced team effort this past week."
Wyoming is currently in second place as a team with a first round 306 (+18). South Dakota State leads all teams with a 299 (+11), while Oral Roberts is just behind UW with a score of 308 (+20). The Cowgirls finished in fourth last year with a two-round mark of 601 (+25). Gibson led the team with a fourth-place finish.
Junior
Megan Knadler owns a share of 17th place halfway through the event. She shot 78 (+6), while fellow junior
Sarah Hankins is one shot behind with a 79 (+7). Playing as an individual, redshirt sophomore
Kaylee Knadler also recorded a 79 (+7) during the first round. She is tied with Hankins at 27th-place in the 70-player field. Sophomore
Erin Sargent is sitting just within the top-40 after an opening mark of 81 (+9).
Sydney Bormann of SDSU is atop the field with a 71 (-1). Teammate Teresa Toscano is just one shot ahead of Skavdahl for second place with one round remaining.
The second and final round of the Lady Thunderbird Invitational will take place tomorrow morning. Results will be posted to Golfstat at the conclusion of the round.
