Cowgirl Basketball Faces Tough Road Challenge on Wednesday

It will be the 75th meeting between the two schools

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 19, 2018) – The Wyoming women's basketball team continues Mountain West play on Wednesday against the New Mexico Lobos. The game is set for a 7 p.m. MT tip time at Dreamstyle Arena in Albuquerque. Live stats, video and audio can be found on the GoWyo.com website.
 
The Cowgirls enter the contest 18-7 overall and continue to sit in first place with a 11-3 conference record after a 66-64 win over San Jose State on Saturday. Senior Liv Roberts led the way with a game-high 18 points, and eight rebounds. Junior Marta Gomez followed with 15 points, which included 11 in the fourth quarter, while sophomore Taylor Rusk chipped in 12 points. Junior Clara Tapia dished out eight assists in 36 minutes of play. UW shot 27-of-55 (.491) from the field and 6-of-13 (.462) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls had 21 assists on 27 baskets, 19 bench points and 36 points in the paint.  
 
Roberts is averaging a team-high 14.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, which ranks 10th and 14th in overall games, respectively in the MW. She is followed by sophomore Rusk who is adding 9.1 points and 3.0 assists, while junior Bailee Cotton is chipping in 8.3 points and 6.0 boards per game. UW is shooting 533-of-1283 (.415) from the field and 267-of-350 (.763) from the free throw line. The Cowgirls are also outscoring their opponents 60.8-55.2 and out rebounding teams 33.6-31.8.
 
UNM enters the contest with a 20-7 overall mark and an 8-6 mark in the league. Junior Jaisa Nunn leads the way averaging 16.5 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Cherise Beynon is adding 16.3 points plus 5.2 boards. As a squad, the Lobos are outscoring opponents 82.4-70.9. They return three starters and five letterwinners to a team that went 15-15 overall and 10-8.
 
This will be the 75th meeting between the two schools. New Mexico leads the series 39-35. The last time the two teams met was January 10, 2018 with the Cowgirls holding on to a 66-55 victory. The Lobos are coached by Mike Bradbury who is in his second season with the program.
