PALM DESERT, Calif. – Wyoming men's golf moved up seven spots to eighth place after a second-round score of 284 (-4) at Classic Club in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. Sophomore Dan Starzinski, playing as an individual, shot a career-low round of 64 (-8) to take a two-stroke lead over the rest of the field at -11 overall.

All five members of Wyoming's team shot even-par or better on Saturday. Junior John Murdock led the way with a score of 70 (-2). Murdock birdied his 11th and 12th holes after shooting even on his front nine, and shot par on his final six holes.

Seniors Quintin Pope and Glenn Workman each shot 71 (-1). Murdock and Pope are now both at -1 for the tournament and tied for 24th. Workman is tied for 40th at +2 overall.

Seniors Drew McCullough and Arron Lickteig both carded rounds of 72 (E). Lickteig is now +5 for the tournament and tied for 68th, while McCullough is +6 overall and tied for 76th.

As a team, the Cowboys improved on their first-round score by 13 strokes and shot the fourth-best score of any team in the second round.
"Obviously I'm happy for Dan [Starzinski], I'm real proud of him," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "I feel great about the team. We played better today, and it's still a work in progress. We'll go get it tomorrow."

Starzinski logged a team-high six birdies, one eagle and no bogeys. His round of 64 matches the low round in the 10-year history of the tournament. Colorado's Jeremy Paul shot a 64 in the second round of last year's tournament. His round of eight under was also three strokes better than anyone else in the field. Starzinski is now -11 for the tournament. The record over three days was set by TCU's Julien Brun in 2014, who shot a 203 (-13). Starzinski would need a round of 69 (-3) or better to set a new tournament record.

Freshman Carl Underwood recorded a 75 (+3). After finishing his front nine three over, Underwood bounced back with a birdie on his 10th hole, and shot par on seven of his last eight to finish at +3.

No. 19 Cal once again sits atop the team leaderboard, improving on their team score of 275 (-13) yesterday. The Bears shot 274 (-14) on Saturday, bringing their tournament total to 549 (-27). No. 9 Texas Tech is in second after two rounds with a total of 564 (-12). Colorado, Kansas and No. 21 UCLA round out the top five. The Pokes have a two-day total of 581 (+4) to move up to eighth.

Tomorrow's tee times will begin at 7:40 a.m. MT off of holes 1 and 10. The Pokes will tee off of hole 1 beginning at 8:40 a.m. Underwood and Starzinski will tee off of hole 1 at 6:40 a.m. and 6:50, respectively.
