Cowboys Tie for Seventh at Desert Intercollegiate

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Wyoming men's golf finished the Desert Intercollegiate with a three-round score of 882 (+18) the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The Cowboys shot a 298 (+10) in their final round this afternoon to tie for seventh out of the 22-team field.


Junior Glenn Workman carded the low round of the day for Wyoming with a two-under 70. Workman made four bogeys and just two bogeys for his best round of the tournament. He finished with a total score of 219 (+3), his second-best finish of the 2016-17 season. Senior Ryan Wallen shot a 76 (+4) today to match Workman's tournament score of 219 (+3). The pair tied for 31st on the individual leaderboard. Junior Drew McCullough wrapped up his weekend with a 77 (+5), tying for 68th with a total score of 226 (+10).


Sophomore John Murdock tallied a three-over mark of 75 to finish with a total score of 227 (+11). Redshirt-freshman Dan Starzinski, playing as an individual, also logged a tournament score of 227 (+11) after shooting 74 (+2) today. It's the lowest three-round total of Starzinski's Wyoming career.


"I'm pleased with how we played today and finished out the tournament," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "Our guys got to play with some of the top golfers in the country and we got some really valuable experience early in the spring season. I'd like to thank the staff at the Classic Club for putting on such a great tournament once again."


Oregon's Wyndham Clark and Norman Xiong tied for first place with a final total of 205 (-11) each. Clark climbed two spots in the final round with a four-under 68, tying the low mark of the day. Colorado's Jeremy Paul and TCU's Stefano Mazzoli tied for third with scores of 208 (-8). Three Ducks finished in the top 10, the most of any team. Colorado, Texas Tech and TCU each placed two golfers among the top 10.


Oregon carded a 285 (-3) as a team today to secure their victory with a total of 838 (-26). The Buffs placed second, finishing the tournament with a team total of 847 (-17), followed by Texas Tech with an 850 (-14) in third. Kansas and TCU each tallied an 862 (-2) to tie for fourth. The top five schools were also the only teams to finish the tournament under par.
