Lincoln, Neb. (Sept. 26, 2016) -- Redshirt sophomore Sarah Hankins and junior Gabrielle Gibson fired rounds of 72 (E) and 74 (+2), respectively, to lead the University of
Wyoming women's golf team on Monday as it combined for its lowest round of the
fall season. The Cowgirls are in sixth place after recording the fourth-best
team score of the 11 teams at the Nebraska Chip-N Club in Lincoln, Neb.
"We learned a lot about the course yesterday and that really
helped with our confidence," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "I was proud of the
girls for coming out positive and focused today. We were in good position on
the course all day and capitalized on our opportunities. If we stay focused on
our game tomorrow, we will be in good shape to finish strong."
The Cowgirls second-round team score of 296 (+8) was its best
round since the MSU Bobcat Spring Invite last season, where UW recorded a 294 (+6).
Wyoming has a two-round total of 614 (+38) and are 21 shots back of Kansas
State, who holds the top spot with a 593 (+17).
Hankins and Gibson each had three birdies during the second
round, as freshman Erin Sargent recorded two, and senior Mackenzie Barrie and
sophomore Megan Knadler each had one for the Cowgirls. Hankins continues to lead UW, as she is
tied for ninth in the 65-golfer field. Her career-low 72 (E) brings her
two-round total to 148 (+4) heading into the final round.
Gibson sits tied for 25th with a two-day total 154 (+10), as
Barrie, who is tied for 28th, is one shot back with a 155 (+11). Sargent closed
out the second day at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course with a 75 (+3) and has a
158 (+14) to sit tied for 39th.
Knadler is tied for 41st with one round remaining. She
scored a 78 (+6) on Monday and now has a 160 (+16), while junior Klara Castillo
also posted 78 (+6) and is tied for 51st with a total score of 163 (+19).
South Dakota State's Hallie Getz moved into the individual
lead after a 71 (-1) during the second round. She has a total of 145 (+1) with
the last round remaining.
The Nebraska Chip-N Club will conclude tomorrow beginning at
8:45 a.m. MT.
