First Round: Results | Live Scoring
Redshirt sophomore Sarah Hankins carded a first-round score
of 76 (+4) to pace the University of Wyoming women's golf team through the
opening round of the Nebraska Chip-N Club on Sunday. The Cowgirls shot a 318
(+30) during the first round in Lincoln, Neb., and sit in ninth place of the 11 teams with two
rounds remaining.
"It was great to see Sarah (Hankins) play with confidence
throughout the day," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "I think she was able to
learn the course a little better than most players out there and that really
proved to help her. We were unable to complete a full practice round yesterday
due to rain and lightning, so we didn't have the best idea of what the course
would be like today. We finished the first round well in terms of course
management, and I believe having today's round under our belt will only help us
for tomorrow and the final round as well."
Hankins 18-hole score of 76 (+4) puts her tied for 15th in the 65-golfer field after Sunday. It was her second-best round of the year, as she posted a 75 (+3)
to begin the CSU Ram Fall Classic. Senior Mackenzie Barrie and junior Gabrielle Gibson are three shots behind after each shot an 80 (+8) during the opening
round at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course. Barrie and Gibson are tied for 33rd
with two rounds left to play.
Next up for the Cowgirls is sophomore Megan Knadler and
freshman Erin Sargent. Knadler shot an 82 (+10), while Sargent posted a
first-round 83 (+11) on Sunday. Knadler is tied for 44th, with Sargent close
behind and tied 46th. Sophomore Klara Castillo, who is playing as an
individual, recorded an 85 (+13) to close out the first day.
Kansas State has the team lead after the first round in
Lincoln. The Wildcats fired an opening-round 292 (+4), while sophomore Chloe
Weir sits alone in the individual lead with a 71 (-1).
The three-day tournament continues Monday with tee times
starting at 8 a.m. MT.
