The Wyoming Swimming and diving team hosted its annual Brown and Gold Dual on Friday evening in Corbett pool. The Gold Team edged out the Brown Team 314 to 264. The Gold Squad was led by senior captains Aliyah Mikulski and Ryan O'Leary.

"I'm very impressed with how fast our kids were," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "We were very deep in every event tonight and that is a great sign for us."

The women's events featured an impressive debut for the Gold Team's Maria Harutjunjan, as she won the 100 and 200 breaststroke. She set a Corbett Pool record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.13, it was the fastest time in Corbett Pool since 2010. Senior Jordan Denny also won two events for the Gold Team winning the 100 (57.13) and 200 backstroke (2:05.36). Juniors Emily Ridout and Keara Chang led the Brown Team with two event wins apiece. Ridout took the crown in the 50 (23.30) and 100 freestyle (51.51). Chang also found success by winning the 200 (1:53.80) and 500 freestyle (5:09.80). The Gold Team took both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

"It was crazy that Maria earned a record in her first meet at Wyoming and first swimming competition in the country, not to mention her first race at elevation," Johnson said.

The men's events featured another newcomer leading the charge with freshman Ryan Ball winning the 200 backstroke and 1,000 freestyle for the Gold Team. He recorded a time of 9:49.48 in the 1,000 freestyle and wrapped up the day with a mark of 1:57.75 in the 200 backstroke. Juniors Kyle Scalise and Kevin Waller also won a pair of races for the Gold Team. Scalise took the title in the 100 (57.93) and 200 breaststroke (2:09.97). Waller won the 200 (1:42.59) and 500 freestyle (4:46.71). The Brown Team was paced by NCAA qualifiers, senior Adam Kalms and Junior Ryan Nelson. Kalms won the 100 freestyle at 45.62 and 100 backstroke with a time of 51.32. Nelson earned the top spot in the 200 individual medley (1:57.10) and 200 butterfly (1:52.92). The Gold Team took both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

The divers were led by Kari Campbell for the Gold Team, as she won both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard. She recorded a score of 197.47 in the 3-meter event. Sophomore Jacob Rehmeier won the 3-meter event for the Gold Team with a tally of 257.47. Freshman Ryan Russi won the 1-meter springboard for the Brown Team with a mark of 226.35.

"It was a great way for our kids to see what they need to work on for competition," UW diving coach Yahya Radman said.

The Cowgirls open the season next Thursday at 5 p.m. MT., as UW hosts Mountain West foe New Mexico in Corbett Pool. The diving team opens the season next Friday, as they host the Wyoming Diving Invite at 5 p.m. MT. The two-day event will wrap up on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. MT.
