2016) – Wyoming women's swimming
and diving defeated Air Force by a score of 163.5-131.5 on Thursday evening in
Colorado Springs, Colo. The men's squad dropped its first dual of the season to
the Falcons, 156.5-143.5

time of :56.87. Junior Maria Harutjunjan claimed the next event for the
Cowgirls, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.39. Junior Kelly

the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:05.26. Harutjunjan followed up her effort
with a win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:19.68, more than five
seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Freshman Karla Contreras swept
the diving events for the Wyoming women, with winning scores of 285.75 in the
one-meter and 326.85 in the three-meter.
"On the women's side,
we had a really good meet," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "I'm very proud of
Kelly Sheldon, she had a great day, as did Abby Sullivan. Maria Harutjunjan had
a huge day and swam about as fast as she has this season. Our divers were
amazing, absolutely unbelievable."
The UW men fell
behind early in the meet by 50 points, and battled their way back before
falling short in the 400 freestyle relay. A three-win stretch, kicked off by junior
Ryan Ball, brought the Cowboys back within striking distance. Ball placed first
in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.43. Senior Gabe Rooker continued UW's
streak in the 200 breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:02.55. Junior Eric Oleson
capped off the run in the 500 freestyle, blowing away the competition with a
time of 4:38.11. The second-place finisher clocked in at 4:43.98. Redshirt-sophomore
Ryan Russi mirrored Contreras' performance on the women's side, finishing first
in both diving events for the UW men. Russi scored a 292.50 in the three-meter
and a 274.20 in the one-meter.
"On the men's side,
it was a tale of two meets," Johnson said. "We were down big early, but in the
back half of the meet the guys came to life. Ryan Ball and Gabe Rooker were
outstanding. Eric Oleson dominated in the 500 freestyle. We just let it get too
far away from us early, and we need to be more consistent."
The women's team will be back in action tomorrow at the Corbett Pool. The
Cowgirls host the New Mexico State Aggies, and the dual is slated to begin at 5
p.m. MT. Live results will be available at gowyo.com and follow @wyo_swimdive
