Before Wyoming: Starwood is listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals and 247Sports.com. He is the No. 15 recruit in the State of Illinois and 247Sports.com listed him as the No. 42 ranked guard in the class. He was an All-State honoree. Recorded over 1,000 career points and named Records Newspaper Player of the Year. He led his team to a sectional championship and a 29-6 record as a junior at Oswego East High School. As a junior, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.  He was also recruited by Illinois State, Southern Illinois, Miami of Ohio, San Jose State and Denver.
