LARAMIE, Wyoming (8/9/26) – The University of Wyoming soccer team concluded its preseason in style on Sunday at the Madrid Sports Complex. The Cowgirls toppled Denver, 1-0, behind a goal from
Alisa Bunn.
"It was a positive performance," head coach
Josh Purdum said. "We got to play everybody that was healthy and ready to go, and that was a huge positive. But even when we subbed, we showed our depth, and I'm excited for that. The performance for 90 minutes was very positive and puts us on the front foot going into the season."
Bunn netted the score in the 86th minute off a pass from
Maddie Burr. The goal followed a wave of momentum from Wyoming, which outshot the Pioneers, 21-2, and, 14-1, in the second half.
The Cowgirls played a pair of goalkeepers in the match.
Haley Bartel participated in the first half and made one save, while
Julia Herges competed for the final 45 minutes and made one save, which impressively occurred on a penalty kick.
Wyoming opens the regular season on Thursday. The Cowgirls host Drake at 4 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
