LARAMIE, Wyoming (5/21/26) – The University of Wyoming men's golf team completes its 2025-26 season this weekend. The Pokes are set to play in the 2026 National Golf Invitational from Friday through Sunday at AK-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.
It's a par 72 track that stretches 7,330 yards. Eighteen holes are slated to be completed each day.
"For such a young team, it's neat they get their first postseason experience," head coach
Joe Jensen said. "I'm excited about that. We are building on some things from the spring, and that's what I want to continue to do. We are going to have good preparation and good practices and we're just going to take it one round at a time."
The Cowboys earned a postseason invite via a tremendous and historic Mountain West Conference Championship. They took fifth as a team, which matched their best finish ever at the Mountain West Championship and it was their second-best conference finish in school history.
Brody Leid spearheaded the conference tournament effort. He tied for fourth, which was the second-best individual Mountain West finish in school history and the third best overall individual conference finish in program history.
Leid has consistently been one of Wyoming's best golfers on the season. He's also the oldest in a collection of five starters that features Leid, a sophomore, and four freshmen in
Brody Knowlton,
Kellen Ball,
Conner Scheich and
Austin Barry.
Knowlton has reeled in Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors three times this season. Ball has played some of his best golf of late, most notably sharing 15th place at the conference tournament.
The Pokes are quite familiar with Ak-Chin Southern Dunes. They play this course each and every season by way of hosting the Cowboy Classic. The Cowboys finished in a tie for seventh at the 2026 Cowboy Classic back in early April.
This marks the third time Wyoming will participate in the NGI. It took part in the first two years of the tournament's existence in 2023 and 24. The winner of the 2026 edition will earn an exemption into the PGA's 2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
