LARAMIE, Wyoming (5/1/26) – The University of Wyoming men's golf team is back in action this weekend. The Pokes compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships, which run from Sunday through Tuesday in Tucson, Arizona.
"We are just going to keep doing what we are doing," head coach
Joe Jensen said. "We've had good preparation the last week or so. That's not to say that our last 60 days of preparation haven't been good. But I like the way we are trending. We are just going to stick to our process and go out there and compete."
The tournament will be played at Omni Tucson National Resort. It's a par 72 layout that stretches 7,194 yards.
It's a course with which Wyoming is quite familiar. The Cowboys participated in the Arizona N.I.T., contested at Omni Tucson National Resort, back in January.
"The course is pretty gettable,"
Brody Leid said. "The par 5s are really reachable. There will be birdies out there. The weather in Arizona will be warm and without a lot of wind, so it'll be scoreable."
Leid led the Pokes in their final regular-season tournament. He tied for 25th at the UC Davis El Macero Classic at 222 (+6), helping Wyoming to a seventh-place team finish. It was Leid's team-high fourth top 25 of the season and seventh of his career.
Leid owns a team-low 72.5 scoring average this season.
Brody Knowlton – who has garnered the Mountain West Freshman of the Week honor three times this season – lays claim to a 72.8 scoring average.
Kristof Panke rounds out the top three for the Cowboys at 73.3.
Wyoming placed 10th at last year's conference tournament in Oregon. Leid paced the squad, tying for 30th.
Sunday's action gets underway at 8 a.m. Eighteen holes will be completed each day.
