LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 24, 2026) – The Wyoming Cowboys hit Jonah Field inside War Memorial Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The 20-period practice was the first of 15 this spring, as head coach
Jay Sawvel opens drills with 32 returning letterwinners and 26 newcomers.
What Head Coach Jay Sawvel Said
"It is great to be out and fun to be back out on the field. I was really looking forward to this practice with the way this team has went about their business from January to where we are now. They were excited to practice, and we hit a little wall and we pushed through and will be better on Thursday."
Wyoming's leading rusher last season Samuel "Tote" Harris returned to the field after missing time late last season. He rushed for 558 yards as a true freshman and caught 16 passes for 184 yards. He rushed for over 100 yards twice doing so with 126 yards against Colorado and 102 yards against Fresno State.
He is joined in the backfield by a talented transfer in
Markell Holman, as he was the Ohio Valley Conference rushing champion last season at Western Illinois with 1,063 yards. He also had over 314 yards receiving.
Other talented players in the backfield include
Diore Hubbard, who will miss the spring, but led West Virgina last season in rushing.
Nico Hamilton,
Jaden Lawrence,
Nikos Varelas and
Dontae Burch will add great depth to the room under second year running backs coach
Gary Harrell.
