SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah – The Cowgirl golf team is in contention at the Wolverine Invitational after a historic start to the 2025-26 season on Monday.
 
Wyoming is currently second in the 10-team tournament hosted by Utah Valley at 7-under (569) through the first 36 holes on the TalonsCove Golf Club.
 
Elle Higgins is tied for third in the individual standings at 5-under after carding a blistering 67 in the first round. The Montana transfer broke the program record for individual low round of 68, which was shared by five different UW players, including current senior Meghan Vogt.
 
The Cowgirls' 282 (-6) in the second round broke the program's low team record round of 285 (-3) set at the Colorado State Wollenberg Ram Classic in 2022.

"A confident and gutsy performance by the Cowgirls today," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "It is rewarding to see the work we have been putting in, specifically on our course management, pay off."
 
Another UW newcomer, Kiley Reisner, is tied for 11^th at 2-under. The true freshman made a charge up the leaderboard with a 68 in the second round.

"Elle and Kiley have been such a positive addition to the program both on and off the course," Stender said.
 
Vogt (14^th at -1) and sophomore Lucia Morelli (17^th at +1) are also in the top 20. Sophomore Kira Reisner (28th at +5) rounded out the scoring for UW.
 
Cal State Northridge (-13) leads the Cowgirls by six shots entering Tuesday's final round on the links-style par-72, 7,004-yard course. Utah Tech and Weber State are tied for third at 6-under one shot behind UW.
 
Higgins trails co-leaders Ariya Soldwisch (-6) of Cal State Northridge and Sarah Mutai (-6) of Cal State Bakersfield by one stroke.

"Our goal was to be in this position going into (Tuesday)," Stender said. "The belief and commitment to our game plan won't change."
