MARICOPA, Ariz. – Wyoming shot a final round 304 on Thursday and finished tied with North Dakota State for eighth in the 15-team Cowgirl Classic on the par-72, 6,191-yard Ak-Chin Southern Dunes golf course.

Iowa State ran away with the 54-hole event with a score of 867 (+3) to beat runner-up UNLV (875) by eight strokes. The Cowgirls finished +51 (915).

"I would like to thank the entire staff at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes for their tireless effort hosting the Cowgirl Classic. We are very fortunate to have a relationship with them," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "The team had a very good start and we played our first nine at even par. We slipped coming down the stretch and missed a few key putts."

The Cyclones' Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn was the individual medalist after shooting a 69 in the final round to finish the tournament -2, which was one shot clear of UNLV's Mayumi Umezu (-1).

Senior Kyla Wilde and junior Sophie Spiva finished +11 and tied for 24th in the individual standings to pace the Cowgirls. Freshman Kira Reisner carded her best round with a 76 on Thursday to finish the tournament +15 and tied for 37th.

"Kyla really poured her heart out into this event when the team needed her again," Stender said. "Both her and Sophie should be proud of their top 25 finishes."

Junior Grace Dunkleberger (+17, tied 42nd), senior Meghan Vogt (+18, tied 45th) and freshman Emerson Purcell (+18, tied 45th) also finished in the top half of the field.

"This was still a good finish against strong teams and a lot to learn from when every stroke matters," Stender said.

UW will conclude the regular season April 7-9 at the Bobcat Desert Classic hosted by Montana State in Goodyear, Ariz.
