MARICOPA, Ariz. – Wyoming battled through chilly, windy conditions for 36 holes Wednesday and sits sixth at the annual Cowgirl Classic on the par-72, 6,191-yard Ak-Chin Southern Dunes golf course.

Sophie Spiva, the junior from Casper, leads UW and is tied for 13^th overall at +5 entering Thursday's final round.

"We played with a lot of grit in very difficult conditions today," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "With wind gusts up to 40 mph for nearly 32 of the 36 holes, it impacts all aspects of your game. Really proud of Sophie who played steady and focused."

Kyla Wilde got off to a blistering start and was -5 until a triple bogey on No. 14. The senior from Phoenix shot an even par 72 in the first round and 81 in the second round which puts her in a tie for 25^th at +9 with teammate Grace Dunkleberger, who is playing as an individual.

Meghan Vogt (+10) and Kira Reisner (+11) are also in the top 35 in the event, which started 91 total golfers.

"Meg, Kyla and Kira didn't let challenging situations fluster them," Stender added.

Iowa State (+12) has a one stroke lead over UNLV (+13) atop the standings in the 15-team field. The Cyclones' Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and the Rebels' Mayumi Umezu are tied with Grand Canyon's Anci Dy for the individual lead at +1.
