BOULDER, Colo. (Dec. 7, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls battled hard for 40 minutes on the road Sunday but ultimately didn't have enough fire power at Colorado. The Buffaloes came away with a 58-46 victory in the contest.

The Cowgirls opened the scoring Sunday with a Malene Pedersen 3-pointer before CU surged in front after the media timeout. Both teams played strong defense to begin the game as the first quarter was a low-scoring affair for the first handful of minutes. Turnovers killed Wyoming in the first quarter, but hot shooting from the outside helped it take a 15-13 lead after one.

Colorado was able to open the second quarter with the first five points and grabbed an 18-15 lead early in the frame. After a Logann Alvar bucket got UW on the board in the quarter, the two teams started trading baskets back-and-forth as the Buffs had a 22-19 lead at the media timeout. Out of the timeout, the Cowgirls' cold shooting in the quarter continued as Colorado was able to build up a 30-19 halftime lead. Wyoming went scoreless in the final 5:51 of the half.

The second half opened with the Wyoming cold snap continuing. Colorado was able to build up a 15-point lead before an Alvar hoop once again ended a Buffs run. CU led 40-23 with 5:31 to play in the third before calling a quick timeout. Out of the timeout, a Payton Muma 3-pointer got the Cowgirls going a bit. The Buffaloes were able to lengthen their advantage to 45-26 before back-to-back 3-pointers from Pedersen and Peyton Wohlford cut the Colorado lead down to 45-32 going to the fourth.

CU ratcheted up the defensive pressure to begin the fourth as it was able to build its lead back up to 49-32 in the first couple of minutes of the quarter. The Cowgirls kept battling however, getting the deficit back down to 11 later in the fourth. The Buffaloes were able to keep UW at a distance however, not letting Wyoming get within single digits the rest of the contest. Turnovers cropped back up for the Cowgirls in the game's waning minutes.

Pedersen and Henna Sandvik led the Cowgirls with 11 points each. Alvar also finished in double figures with 10 points. Madi Symons had another strong game on the boards and shared the ball as she grabbed five rebounds and added four assists. Payton Muma had three assists and a pair of steals against Colorado.

Wyoming shot 41-percent in the loss and made six 3-pointers. Colorado shot just 36-percent and had four makes from beyond-the-arc. However, the Buffaloes had 17 more shots in the game as it committed just eight turnovers to Wyoming's 17. The Buffs also enjoyed a 37-29 rebounding advantage.

Despite the turnover discrepancy, CU had just a 10-7 edge in points off turnovers. The Buffs had a 34-16 advantage in points in the paint. Colorado also outscored the Cowgirls 15-6 in fast break points. UW once again shared the ball extremely well, assisting on 12 of its 18 made field goals.

Next up for the Cowgirls is another road contest next Sunday to close non-conference play. Wyoming travels to face Big Ten foe Minnesota in a 4 p.m., Mountain Time contest December 14.
