RENO, Nevada (12/21/25) – The University of Wyoming wrestling team concluded the 2025 portion of its schedule on Sunday at the Reno Tournament of Champions.
Antonio Avila (149) and
John Alden (141) headlined the Cowboy performances, as they each won a title inside the Reno Events Center.
For Avila, it's his second such championship in as many years. He went 5-0 with three bonus-point wins.
Alden enjoyed a very similar path to the crown. He claimed five wins and three of them were bonus-point victories. Alden's title bout was Poke versus Poke, as he defeated
David Saenz via decision, 9-2.
In addition to Saenz placing in the top five, so did three other Cowboys.
Gunner Henry (197) earned a third-place finish, while
Isaiah Harrison (125) and
Lane Foard (174) both took fifth.
In total, Wyoming went 40-14. Each Cowboy that competed logged at least a pair of wins.
The Pokes are back in action Jan. 3-4. They participate in the Soldier Salute Tournament inside Xtreme Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
