LARAMIE, Wyo. (Dec. 15, 2025) – The Wyoming Cowgirls open Mountain West play Wednesday night as San Jose State comes to town for a 6:30 contest. This is the first of a 20-game conference slate for the Cowgirls this season.
Wednesday's game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming is coming off a loss at Minnesota Sunday in its non-conference finale. Malene Pedersen once again led the Cowgirls in scoring, as she scored 10 points in the loss. Pedersen has led UW in scoring in all nine games this season. Pedersen is averaging 16.3 points per game this season, a mark that ranks third in the Mountain West. Her 50.5-percent shooting from the field is second in the league while her 52.8-percent shooting from 3-point range leads the league and ranks fourth in the country. Pedersen's 2.11 3-pointers made per game ranks fifth in the conference.
Pedersen is one of three Cowgirls (Lana Beslic and Madi Symons) who lead the team averaging four rebounds per game. Payton Muma leads Wyoming in assists and steals with 23 and 14, respectively. Henna Sandvik and Logann Alvar are second and third on the team in scoring, averaging 7.7 and 7.3 points per game, respectively.
The Cowgirls rank in the top half of the league in multiple statistical categories through non-conference play. UW is fourth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio, opponent 3-point percentage and assists per game. Wyoming also ranks fifth in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 59.4 points per game and is sixth in free throw percentage and blocked shots.
Wyoming is 3-0 in conference home openers under Head Coach Heather Ezell and is 2-1 in overall Mountain West openers under Ezell.
SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE
San Jose State enters conference play averaging 57 points per game and is allowing 70.1 a contest. SJSU is shooting 33.6-percent overall from the floor and 25.4-percent from 3-point range. Spartan opponents shoot nearly 38-percent from the field and 30.2-percent from beyond-the-arc. San Jose State is being out-rebounded by over 4.5 rebounds per game and is averaging 11 assists per contest. The Spartans commit over 19 turnovers per contest.
Maya Anderson leads the Spartans in scoring with 11.8 points per game and is the only player averaging in double figures for SJSU. Anderson, along with Amira Brown, also leads San Jose State averaging 6.3 rebounds per contest. Rylei Waugh leads the team with 23 assists and is second on the team in both scoring (9.9) and rebounding (5.2). Gabriela Pato leads the Spartans with 14 blocks on the season while Anderson has a team-best 13 steals.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST SAN JOSE STATE
Wyoming leads the all-time series against the Spartans, 20-3 and is 10-1 in Laramie against San Jose State. The Cowgirls have won 15-straight in the series, including both meetings last season. Wyoming won 59-54 last year in Laramie.
