ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. & SEATTLE, Wash. — The Cowboys and Cowgirls are split up for this weekend of competition at the Don Kirby Invite in New Mexico and at the Husky Classic in Washington. The Pokes came out firing as four Track & Field Athletes moved up the Wyoming record books while the men's 5000M record fell in Seattle.
Cody Hape set the tone for the Cowboys and Cowgirls today by breaking into the Wyoming record books in one of the first races of the day. The freshman from Cheyenne, Wyo., went 47.72 in the 400M at the Don Kirby Invite for a second place finish in the race and now sits behind just two Cowboys atop the event. Teammate Jaymison Cox broke the indoor record last year that was formerly held and set by Seth Billy in 2002.
In New Mexico, Sadie McMullen went a personal best 20-7.75 in the Long Jump to move up on the all time top ten list for the third time this season. McMullen passes Ja'la Henderson for second all time and now only her former teammate Shayla Howell stands in her way of the all time mark in the brown and gold. McMullen finished the day in sixth place.
Up in Seattle, Wash., Mason Norman set his second school record in a three-week span. Norman who previously surpassed the school 3000M mark this season went 13:52.29 in the 5000M tonight to see his name atop the books in another event. Norman took the top spot from teammate Jacob White by four seconds.
Hailey Uhre entered the day at No. 6, and one of four current Cowgirl runners, on the top ten list in the 5000M. Uhre ended the day running a 16:25.71 in the event to move up to No. 2 all time, improving her personal best by more than 30 seconds and now is just five seconds behind Holly Page for the No. 1 spot. Uhre finished 23rd in a stacked field at the Husky Classic.
Daniel Reynolds went 4th in the Weight Throw with his second best throw of all time. The junior from Granby, Colo., went 69-6 in New Mexico. Paige Sefried took fifth in the 600M with a time 1:35.51 while Kareem Mersal took third in the Long Jump with a mark of 25-5.25. Reynolds sits 19th in the NCAA this season in the event while Mersal's best of the year has him tied for fourth in the nation.
