Denver, Colo. (Feb. 9, 2024) - A number of Wyoming swimmers and divers headed south for the opening day of the Denver First Chance Meet inside El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of DU in Denver on Friday and the Brown and Gold had a strong showing.
The Cowgirls opened the day with a win in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:43.88 with the group of
Sydney Metzler,
Skye Rehard,
Madeline Bane and
Mikayla Moore. UW also took second at 1:47.69 with the group of
Sophie Nutter,
Zoe Robison,
Anna Roesler and
Brooke Ford.
Moore earned an event win to go with the relay with a time of 58.35 in the 100-backstroke. She cut nearly a second off her time. Alexandra Stein finished fifth (59.47) with
Lana Jeter seventh at 1:03.85. Moore also took second in the 50-yard free style at 23.50
Karter Friesen dropped two seconds off her time finishing third in the 100-breaststroke at 1:05.09.
Zoe Robison finished fourth at 1:06.98.
In the 200-butterfly, Nutter took second place at 2:04.69 dropping a second followed by Metzler at 2:06.08 (-1.5 seconds) and
Carson Muir at 2:08.14 (-2 seconds).
On the men's side,
Quinn Cynor won the 200-butterfly with a time of 1:47.54 over two seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Luke Walker earned fifth in the 200-freestyle with a mark of 1:41.59 to highlight the Cowboy swimmers.
The two-day event wraps up tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in the El Pomar Natatorium.
