Cowgirls Wrap Up Opening Day Action at Causeway Invitational

Ryan Tied for seventh after two rounds

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2024) –The Wyoming Cowgirls returned to stroke play for the first time this spring on Monday on the opening day of the Causeway Invitational in Sacramento, Calif. at the Del Paso Country Club. After two round the Cowgirls sit in ninth place in the 12-team field at 605 (+29). Morgan Ryan is tied for seventh place after the first day and is one stroke off the leaders.

Wyoming shot a 301 (+13) in the opening round and added a 304 (+16) in the second round of play.

"Overall, the team persevered throughout the marathon day," Wyoming head coach Josey Stender said. "I think if we can get a better feel on the greens from the start tomorrow, we can have a competitive finish."

Ryan shot an even par 72 in the opening round for the Cowgirls. She wrapped up the day with a 73 (+1) and is one-over par for the first two round tying with four golfers and is only one stroke out of first place. The even-par tied for her second lowest round of the season.

"It was a Solid day for Morgan from start to finish," Stender said. "She worked hard on her short game since our last event and it showed today."

Jadan Gonzalez added rounds of 79 (+6) and 73 (+1) for the day and sits tied for 35th. Samantha Spielman added a 74 (+2) in the first round and finished the day with a 79 (+7) and is tied for 43rd. Kyla Wilde is in 49th place with rounds of 76 (+4) and 79 (+7). Sophie Spiva is tied for 67th with rounds of 84 (+12) and 82 (+10).

Sacramento State, the host of the event is in first place at 579 (+3). Cal Poly sits second at 581 (+5). UC Davis is in third place at 589 (+13).

Six players are currently tied for first place at even par. Ryan leads a group of four players at one-over par with seven players at two-over through 36 holes.
