PALM DESERT, Calif. (Feb. 14, 2024) - The Wyoming Cowgirls had a strong finish at the Mountain Classic Match Play at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. on Wednesday earning third place with a 3-1-1 victory over Mountain West foe Boise State.
Kyla Wilde finished the tournament with another win going 3-0 for the week to lead the Brown and Gold.
"Today was a good day and I knew it was going to be a battle," UW head coach
Josey Stender said. "Kyla was solid all week for us, and we battled through some injuries. It was very rewarding tournament for us both as individuals and as a team. We got so much better within the tournament. It is great to build off that play for the rest of the spring."
Wilde earned a win over Elli Gordon by a score of 3&2. She recorded back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes on her way to the win. She earned a par on the 16th hole to seal the match and remain perfect for the week.
Jadan Gonzalez earned a win over Leia Chung. Gonzalez recorded a pair of pars on the final two holes to earn the win. She was up by as many as three holes in the match and held on for her second win of the week.
Tomine Bjerkelo won her match over Macee Greenwood 2&0. She controlled the match leading from the sixth hole on to earn the win. She added two birdies on the day and took a three hole. Lead on the 11th hole.
Sophie Spiva tied her match to seal out play for the Cowgirls.
In the indy portion of the tournament,
Grace Dunkleberger fell to Annie Buffolino and
Samantha Spielman fell to Hannah Lim. As the Cowgirls faced off against two individuals from Boise State.
