LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 2, 2024) – A pair of Wyoming Cowgirl tennis student-athletes took the court Wednesday to open play at the Mountain West Fall Individuals. Violetta Borodina and Dilnaz Mashabayeva played together as a doubles team, as well as individually in the singles bracket.

Borodina and Mashabayeva began the day by defeating Boise State's Lorelyz Marruffo and Paula Schaefer, 8-5. The duo will now face UNLV's Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao in Thursday's quarterfinals.

In singles, Borodina won her first match of the tournament, besting Silvia Maria Costache of Nevada in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2. In her second singles match, Borodina faced Utah State's Indya Nespor. Borodina's rally came up short in the match as she lost in three sets, 3-6, 6-2 and 1-6. Mashabayeva lost 6-3, 6-0 to Gloria Alogo Piqueras of San Diego State in her singles competition.
