LARAMIE, Wyo. (1/22/24) – The NCAA announced the first wrestling coaches' ranking of the season Monday. The University of Wyoming had four student-athletes appear in the top 33 of their respective weight class.
Jore Volk (125) led the way, checking in at No. 4. He boasts a team-best 18-4 record, which includes a 7-4 mark against ranked foes.
Gabe Willochell (149) was the next-highest Pokes, being ranked No. 14. He possesses a 14-6 record and a team-high five pins.
Joey Novak (197) was ranked No. 19. He owns a 16-10 record and that includes a 6-9 record against ranked foes.
Cole Brooks (141) was the final Cowboy to appear in the poll. He's No. 31 with an 8-4 record, as he's missed some time this season with an injury.
The coaches' ranking is one of many criteria that is used by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the NCAA Tournament at-large selection and seeding process. The other areas that are weighed include head-to-head competition, quality wins, the RPI, conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage.
