NEW ORLEANS, La. — The University of Wyoming Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams received All-Academic nods by the U.S Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association for their achievement in the classroom while five Cowboys and one Cowgirl were honored individually for their achievements in the classroom and for their accolades during competition.
Katelyn Mitchem and Kareem Mersal headline the group of individuals recognized as the Wyoming student athletes competed in Austin, Texas at the NCAA Track & Field National Championships. Mitchem wrapped up her outstanding career as a Cowgirl as a second-team All American for her 13th place finish in the 3000M Steeplechase while Mersal wrapped up his season with his second straight appearance at the Championship Meet and ended his 2023 campaign with an honorable mention All-American nod, taking 20th place in the Long Jump.
Hunter Brown, Sage Coventry, Ryker Holtzen and Jacob White earned their nods with their impressive standing in their individual events during the indoor or outdoor season. Holtzen set the new men's standard in the Steeplechase at the NCAA West First Rounds, running a time of 8:42.51 to finish in 20th place in the race that took place in Fayetteville, Ark. White earned his spot in Fayetteville in the 5000M and wrapped up his season with a 13:57.64 and a 28th place finish. White holds the No. 2 mark in school history in the event.
